A west elm exclusive, we worked with New York City-based design studio Pelle to create this table lamp. You’ll love the soft light its two salt-blasted glass globes give off.
Inspired by contemporary Italian design, our bold and sculptural Modern Totem Table Lamp is an eye-catching combination of modernist ceramic arts and functional lighting—in other words, it’s a brilliant idea.
Geometric base to suspended shade and architectural iron structure contrasts matte black and brushed nickel lines that intersect, angle and telescope to suspend a white linen light source as you please. Circular cutout base cleverly threads cord through the design to keep a neat, clean profile. Thompson likes to celebrate the functional aspects of her designs, stating that “the cantilever effect of this lamp creates a visual tension. The thinness of the structure accentuates the feeling that the illuminated shade is floating.”
Grand in scale and statement, iridescent capiz shells seem to glow from within. Handcrafted by artisans in the Philippines where capiz is abundant, the shells are harvested from local windowpane oysters. In a process done entirely by hand, each shell is cleaned, cut, lacquered, framed in a thin band of brass, strung and attached to a brass-plated frame. A shining example of craftsmanship.
This stunning blue and white table lamp calls to mind the brilliance of the Mediterranean Sea. Made of glazed earthenware, each base is made of locally sourced clay and painted and finished by hand.
