To maximize the lamp’s functionality as a reading light, Jacobsen created a shade that tilts up or down, directing maximum light to where it’s needed. Grand in scale and statement, iridescent capiz shells seem to glow from within. Handcrafted by artisans in the Philippines where capiz is abundant, the shells are harvested from local windowpane oysters. In a process done entirely by hand, each shell is cleaned, cut, lacquered, framed in a thin band of brass, strung and attached to a brass-plated frame. A shining example of craftsmanship.
